Reflexology is a holistic, non-invasive therapy based on the principle that the whole body is mapped out on the feet and by applying gentle pressure to the reflex points on the feet the healing powers of the body are activated.
Whilst Reflexology as we know it today has been rediscovered in the mid to late 1800’s and further developed since, archaeological evidence of the use of hands and feet to achieve better health dates as far back as the ancient Chinese (2704 BCE), Japanese, Indians, Russians and Egyptians (2330 BCE).
In general terms, the benefits of reflexology have to do with the reduction of stress. Because the feet and hands help set the tension level for the rest of the body, they are an easy way to interrupt the stress signal and reset homeostasis, the body's equilibrium.
What does treatment involve?
Treatment is as individual as you are and will be tailored to your needs. Before the first treatment you will be asked to fill in a Health Questionnaire followed by a personal consultation. During the treatment you will lie on a massage table with only your feet bare. After a gentle warm-up both feet are treated individually by applying pressure. This is complemented by a massage to end the session.
Each session will last about an hour including consultation and, in most cases, a series of sessions is advised.
Clients who wish to maintain good health usually book regular sessions at weekly to monthly intervals—depending on their individual needs.
Elke Hillard, MFHT
Elke suffered for a long time from migraines, at times as frequently as every week. Neither traditional migraine medication nor any other conventional pain killers offered any relief.
She then decided to try complementary therapies and found that after only a few Reflexology treatments the migraines started to lessen in intensity, duration and frequency.
This led to Elke studying this gentle yet powerful therapy. She is a member of the ‘Federation of Holistic Therapies’ (FHT)
