Qi gong (pronounced chee gong) simply means energy/breath work or exercise, and is generally concerned with maintaining good health or recovering from illness.
Movements are performed in the same manor as Tai chi, ie slowly, with awareness, and through harmonising the movement with the breath and the mind. The bodies
The bodies systems have a natural affinity for homeostasis and moving in this way encourages the body to heal itself by returning to a balanced state. Because there is no seperation between the mind and the body a sense of calm and mental relaxation is also induced.
Qi Gong & Tai Chi Instructor
Jeremy has been practicing Tai chi and Qi gong for fourteen years. For the past 7 years he has been studying Wu style Tai chi from Shanghai under Michael Acton, who is a disciple of Dr Li Li Qun. He is both a high level Qi gong doctor and martial artist and has handed down a complete sylabus of methods in both areas.
Jeremy has been teaching this material for the past 4 years in both Brighton and Lewes. He has studied with Doctor Li and been to China twice to study with different Tai chi masters, most recently Master Lieu from Shangahi in 2011.
He is also an Acupuncturist based at Coast clinic, Hassocks and Lewes and strongly believes in the wisdom of Chinese healthcare, and its ability to bring harmony to both the individual and society in the 21st century.
His aim is to help people live happier healthier lives, and greatly enjoys teaching qi gong and passing on these skills. His classes are traditional but fun, life is yin and yang after all!
In this class we will be foucusing on the first few movements of the Eternal Spring set, each one adding some element of progression, so that a vocabulary of movements and energetic ideas are created. The first movements are relatively easy to learn and are ideal for beginners to sense the physical and mental relaxation that practice creates. This form also explores all the core ideas and principles inherent in qi gong, tai chi or any of the internal martial arts.
It is suitable for anyone wishing to maintain their health, recover from injury or illness or just de stress and feel good. At its simplist level Qi gong offers the chance to be proactive in the control of ones own health. At its highest level it is a yogic practice that is concerned with physical, mental and spiritual development, and the nourishment of ones own destiny.
